Professor António Nóvoa is Professor at the Institute of Education, University of Lisbon. He holds a PhD in Educational Sciences from the University of Geneva and a PhD in History from the University of Paris IV – Sorbonne. His current research interests lie in the history of education and comparative education, particularly focusing on the teaching career, teacher training and education policies.
António Nóvoa was the Rector of the University of Lisbon between 2006 and 2013, currently holding the title of Honorary Rector.
In 2014 he was a UNESCO consultant for the Brazilian government and a visiting professor at the Brasília University that awarded him the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa in 2015.
In 2016 he was a candidate for the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic. António Nóvoa has been one of the most inspiring voices in the field of Portuguese education and in the role of the Universities in the enhancement of society aiming at the construction of a more active citizenship.
